ending soon- 3D film fest

3D films are experiencing a rebirth with the success of Up and a wagonload of animated flicks following suit. Why not see classics the same way? Canada's oldest and greatest theatre, The Fox, began it's 3D Film Fest on the 17th with House of Wax and Friday the 13th. With a choice selection of movies, there's no reason not to check one out after a picnic in the Beaches.

If you haven't caught the first few days, here's the schedule. There's still hope!

TCAF '09

Today we hit up the much anticipated Toronto's Comic Arts Festival. The capacious Yonge Street Reference Library was literally brimming with anxious nerds in pursuit of the latest and greatest in comic book art. Some subjected themselves to lengthy line-ups for a Yoshihiro Tatsumi or Adrian Tomine signature, while others mingled amongst the crowd. I on the other hand, happened upon a sweet little five part series by Jim Rugg titled, Street Angel. Afterward, I had the chance to meet Rick Spears, talk about the Pirates of Coney Island delay, his upcoming new project with James Callahan, and even got him to sign my newly purchased Teenagers From Mars book.

TCAF is still on for one more day, don't sleep.

world graphic design day

How exciting! Today is World Graphic Design Day and I'm sure many of us are participating 100%. I've got a list of revisions to make to some of my files (lists rule) and have to bunt on one of the loveliest days of the year. When it comes time for a break, wouldn't you love to lay your head on one of these adorable handmade fleece Creative Suite pillows?

bad boy 4 life

Friday's jam was the best fun I've had in a while. Stephanie laid down some legit bangers and no one stopped dancing to the luscious Bad Boy catalogue. Here are a couple friends who came out.

As always, responsible drinking was encouraged, as was a trip to Hero Burger to cap the evening!

Okay Blue Jays! Let's Play Ball!

Hello baseball fans, It's that time again.
The Season Opener: The Detroit Tigers go up against the home team tonight at 7:15 pm.

You can bet your ass the Ghosts will be there to cheer 'em on... Although, we do advise against betting, on The Jays that is.

The season is looking bleak, best not to spring for those season tickets. We're sitting in the nosebleed 500's with shoddy Star Passes and putting the rest of our dough into $10 draft beers. The Jays could lose every game and we're still getting jiggy to an Alex Rios reggaeton batting song.

See you at the Dome.

Also, Magic Pony is hosting a show for Tara McPherson. May 9 & 10, 2009.

World Baseball Classic '09

Hellooo baseball fans, welcome to The World Baseball Classic, here in Toronto! Saturday afternoon commenced the first game of the Pool C (Canada, U.S.A., Italy and Venezuela) round one, at the Rogers Center.

I hit the stadium Saturday night for the Venezuela vs. Italy game at 8:00 pm. We had decided to root for Venezuela with the super-star lineup including, Bobby Abreu, Miguel Cabrera and lastly Magglio Ordonez, who was booed violently by Venezuelan spectators for (I assume) political reasons unknown to me. (As a sidenote, I wikipediaed Ordonez in search of answers but came up short; instead I learned that he has a family of 4, one son and two daughters, two of which are named, get this, Magglio Jr. and Maggliana. Obvious symptoms of a psychopathological condition know as, megalomania).
I digress, Venezuela preformed effortlessly as expected, but wouldn't you know it, those damn Italians sure put up a good fight. Mario Chiarini dove for a hit to right field that had us stupefied and it was amore, we ditched the Latinos for the Guidos and got behind the underdogs.

You can catch all the action tonight as our own Jason Bay, Justin Morneau and Matt Stairs along with the rest of team Canada go up against Italy at 6:30 pm.

Death Row pt. 2

Friday night marked our first Miss Elizabeth's Ghost event: a Death Row Tribute at 751. Brews were flowing and bodies got on the dance floor. As this was the first installment of a 3-part series, you gotta come out next time for the Bad Boy Entertainment tribute.
Check out some of the characters who showed up.

Yep. Another Slayer party last night at 751. You know the deal, hipsters, heshers, babes, bangers and brews with kick-ass tunes...
In my opinion, not nearly enough thrash metal, nevertheless I still got taste of some Venom, Anthrax, Deep Purple, Emperor, Whitesnake, Metal Church, Diamondhead, Girlschool, Kiss, Pantera and Ratt. Here's the flicks.

Five & Dime '09

Stressed out? Pinching pennies? You say the economy's got you down? How about a little success story amidst a recession?

Well, the second annual Five & Dime Lifestyle Trade Show opened today at Polson Pier. Some industry big guns joined up for '09 accompanying an already solid exhibitor roster, Alife, Levis, Mishka, Rocksmith, New Balance, Rvca, Vans, Enjoi, Freshjive, Insight and Etnis, to name a few.

A skateboarding contest presented by Hrs. and a live Art Show transpired this afternoon. Later, DJ's Serious & Fathom headline the "Mixxer" exhibitors and friends event from 8pm - 2am.

Five & Dime is buzzing and progress marches on!

It's the freakin' weekend...

It's Friday night Toronto, what are you gonna do about it?

Loving In The Name Of
10:00 pm - 3:00 am
@ The Gladstone
Tonight!

This party is destined for magnitude on the grounds that your favorite local musicians are covering your favorite songs; and when I say favorite songs, I don't mean the ones you quote on your facebook profile page, I mean the ones you privately sing in the shower. Matt Murphy, Nobu Adilman, Allie Hughes and Katherine Bates take on the likes of Styx, Bon Jovi, Bob Marley, Jackson 5 and The Cure.
With DJ's Product Placement, Strictly Commercial and Disappointment to get things cookin'.

Rumor has it former singer of The Deadly Snakes, Andre Ethier is doing R. Kelly's Ignition. Could it get any better than that? Incidentally, Andre has a new album out on Blue Fog Records called Born Of Blue Fog which we believe is magnificent. You can listen to some recordings here.

No Haps, the last

Last night, the No Haps to end all No Haps went down at 751 on Queen. The party started off with some solid lampin jams.

DJ's Mansa and Stephanie laid down the tracks like Dr. Dre's Xxplosive, some Digital Underground, Lord Finesse, and Diamond D. They repped some favorites like Check Yo Self by Ice Cube featuring Das EFX and plenty of estrogen heavy joints, like Mariah Carey's Fantasy, some Destiny's Child, SWV, and Montel Jorden.

Things got pretty crazy around midnight after everyone was juiced and the ladies began to really kick out the jams. Bubba Sparxxx's Ugly, No Diggity by Blackstreet, Akinyele Put It In Your Mouth, Some Snoop, Camp Lo, MOP, Pharoahe Monch, Fat Joe, and R Kelly.

A really good mix had all the ladies, fellas and herbs on the dance floor.

It was a fun event but there are some hype new haps coming up. Stay tuned!

No Haps - The Last Course

No Haps is like an all-you-can-eat buffet serving up all your favorites from pizza to chop suey and everything in between, for a couple of bucks, at a greasy-spoon called Rap.

Welcome to tha joint, can I take your order please?

For the last two years (longer unofficially) this has been the little monthly hip-hop night that could, on the first Thursday of every month at 751 Queen Street West.

My endeared friend Mansa Chintoh is the body that hosts Aaliyah's spirit and the brains behind the whole thing. She departs next month for Australia and leaves behind No Haps. She'll be wholly missed.

This coming Thursday ajourns an era, and the end of the most mellow, rap banger night, in downtown Toronto.

Got till it's gone.

a Rolling Perspective.

To get things crackin' I've decided to revamp some posts from the old blog and rebirth them here at Miss Elizabeth's Ghost...

Back in the beginning of December I helped to put together a little art show called a Rolling Perspective for Color Magazine. It took place on December 5th at three locations beginning with the Stussy store, then Adrift Skate Shop and finishing with an after-party at Baitshop Gallery.

Below are a few of the event photos, the rest you can find here.
